It’s going to be another season without the Premier League title for Manchester United.
After their latest 0-0 draw with Southampton, they will find themselves 15 points behind Manchester City on New Years’ Day.
And Old Trafford is not a happy place right now.
Jose Mourinho recently moaned about the spending of United’s city rivals, despite spending almost £300 since taking charge of the Red Devils.
“We are in the second year of trying to rebuild a football team that is not one of the best teams in the world. Manchester City buy full-backs for the price of strikers. When you speak about big football clubs, you are speaking about the history of the club.”
While ‘The Special One’ got plenty of criticism from pundits and football fans alike for those comments, there is one man that seemingly agrees with him.
That man is Gary Neville.
A day after their 0-0 draw with Southampton – their third consecutive draw in the league – Neville has come out in support of Mourinho and has blamed the recruitment under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.
GARY NEVILLE’S TWO TWEETS
In two tweets, he wrote: “On United. We should be closer to City irrespective of their incredible run but city did have a better squad than united when Jose came in. . The recruitment under LVG / DM all over the place. The club should be signing players that suit the values not being taken from tbc.”
“One extreme to another by managers with differing principles. It’s a very costly exercise and means the waste is huge. The players signed by Jose are much better and more aligned to the clubs values. He should be supported in the TM with more players that meet the club ethic.”
FOOTBALL FANS REACT
But football fans don’t exactly agree with Neville on this one. They question whether Mourinho and his behaviour fit “the club ethic” and that the manager has already spent more than enough to win the league.
And when asked which players specifically Mourinho should get rid of, Neville replied: “95% of the players LVG and DM bought!!”
